I think the chances are good it is forever dead.
The One Handed Teenager will be starting an English Composition 2 at the Community College on the 20th using only his non-dominant hand and no laptop.

We had something similar happen to us. Dh just bought a new laptop screen for it. It works fine now. Just go to the maker's website and they can help you out.
Oh no - we had one that got the screen busted like that - and were able to hook it up to an external monitor. That negates the portability - but the computer could still be used. What a bummer.

It is right now hooked up to an external monitor. It was not that portable anyway, because the battery was dead in it so it had to be plugged in all the time to work. He always used it at his desk anyway.
Eventually, when we're done paying for his hand accident, I'll order a new screen.
