Of Flip Flops and Lent

Bob gave up flip flops for Lent.

I don’t know why this cracks me up so much but it does.

I can’t decide which is funnier; the fact that he gave up flip flops for Lent or the fact that Lent happens in Feb-March and he misses his flop flops, or that I noticed he was wearing real shoes and not flip flops, as it happens so rarely.

Somehow I wonder if our first attempt at observing Lent is quite what our Spiritual forefathers had in mind, but hay, you’ve got to start somewhere right, and why not start with footwear?

This, somehow, does not surprise me. One of the things I remember about Bob's father, back in the good old days, is that he would wear shorts and t-shirts to church. And not NICE shorts and t-shirts. But sort of sloppy looking things. So, Bob loves his flip flops? Not a surprise. Just like it wouldn't surprise me to see my nephew wearing ratty Van's tennis shoes, dirty jeans and ripped up, dirty t-shirts. :-) Do you know that my dear brother threatened to wear his ripped up Van's tennis shoes to his wedding (and a t-shirt tux). We actually have pictures of him in his REAL tux with those shoes on.

Gotta love how guys dress up.

Oh, Tonya!

That is one of the first things I outlawed when we got married.

I remember when we were dating he'd wear his SWIMSHORTS to church! I am happy to say he has not worn a pair of shorts to church since we got married. I can't say as much for my offspring however.

That is so funny that you remember that.

I at least bought Bob some leather flip flops to wear to church and nice cargo style shorts.

Yes indeed, the apple did not fall far from the tree!

:o)

Oh, very very funny. I'm pretty sure it's the swim shorts I'm remembering. At least one pair of faded orangeish shorts. Oh my. Glad you allow the boys SOME freedom there, but within bounds. :-)
