We wouldn't want to ruin his cool.
The teenager has a tournament in a city about 5 hours away from here the weekend after Thanksgiving. It was our plan to borrow Sir D's brother's RV being that we are currently in the unenviable state of camperlessness, and go to the games.
Sadly, we are a bit low on vacation funds due to some unforeseen recent expenses (like The Other Teenager leaving his gear bag home on the ill fated riding trip to Houston and Sir D buying him some new gear, which is NOT CHEAP!) and a few other things.
Being that the tournament takes place close to Christmas, we thought we'd better forgo the family adventure and just send The Teenager.
I must say I was a bit nervous about this. A bunch of teenage boys in a hotel with only a few adults. Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me. Sir D called the Youth Pastor at our church whose son is also on Will's team and ask him if he was going, and what is the procedure here, does Sir D need to accompany Will, how does it all work? (we're still learning how the world of SOCCER-IS-MY-LIFE works)
Our Youth Pastor, (who I love because he is not barley out of the teen years himself, but instead has a wife and 4 kids, 3 of which are teens so he knows a thing or two about what he speaks) said he had room in his car with his family and would be happy for Will to join them.
I can't tell you how relieved I am. Really, how much trouble could the boy get into with his Youth Pastor and his family? I think he'd only possibly be safer with a car full of Nuns and I'm pretty sure there are no caravanning Nuns heading to the soccer tournament.
I am a little concerned at The Teenager's response to all this. He seemed almost relieved the entire family was not going to accompany him and his team to the tournament. What? Is he afraid we'll ruin his cool?
